Boxer becomes door-to-door punch salesman
A former body builder is running a controversial new scheme in which he offers to teach people to punch harder in 15 minutes – or they get their money back.
Dave Roulland says he started the scheme to teach people who are bullied or feel intimidated how to protect themselves.
But critics have slammed his idea, calling it irresponsible and unsafe.
The scheme involves Mr Roulland going to a customer's house with boxing gloves and pads and charging 10 for a 15-minute session in which he will analyse their punching technique.
He will then teach the customer – who must be at least 16 – how to put more weight into punches and give tips on how to get more power.
The amateur boxer, of Green Road, Southsea, says if they can't pack a more powerful punch after quarter of an hour, he promises to give them every penny back.
The 27-year-old – who came fourth in the Mr Britain competition at the age of 17 and has a qualification in fitness instructing – said: "It's not there for people to learn how to hit people, even though that's what is being taught.
"It's there for people to learn how to feel more confident, so if someone does try to attack them, they've got a better choice of looking after themselves.'
But gym owner Dianne Bennett, who trained Arnold Schwarzenegger when he used to work out at First Fitness in Clarence Road, Southsea, said: "If you want to teach people to better defend themselves, then you need a whole programme.
"I don't think that you can just train people in 15 minutes.
"To me it sounds totally irresponsible and very unsafe. I believe it is a very bad idea."
