SUPERSPEED broadband is set to be rolled out to homes across the North East.
Wearsiders, along with residents living in Sherburn Hill and Sacriston in Durham, are the latest in the region to be included in the plans for BT’s next generation copper broadband service.
The investment will allow broadband speeds of up to 20 megabits per second – more than double the current maximum.
By spring next year, about 76 per cent of North East premises are expected to have been upgraded.
Chris Sayers, BT’s North East regional director, said: “Our latest investment in the North East marks another major milestone in the development of the region’s communications.
“It will deliver an important benefit for local businesses as well as home workers, helping to boost their efficiency.”
