CELEBRATIONS will be held at the double in Seaham this year to celebrate Bonfire Night and Halloween.
Seaham Town Council has decided to combine its annual fireworks display with a Halloween party this year, with the joint event to be staged on the seafront on Friday, October 31.
The display will begin at 7pm to the sounds of orchestral music, with the first track lined up being Michael Jackson’s Thriller, to get the occasion off to a spooky start.
A fancy-dress competition will be held as part of the evening, with prizes going to those clad in the best ghost, goblin or other ghoulish costumes.
A dance-off is also planned, with adults as well as children being invited to make their moves in front of the gathered crowd.
The council is billing the night as one of the best free firework events in the UK.
Deputy clerk Paul Fletcher said: “We decided to have them together to add a bit of value to the event because we take the first Friday closest to fireworks night, and that just happens to be the 31st this year.
“We’re encouraging families to come along and take part.”
The fireworks show will also feature a light display to be sparked off by town mayor Bruce Burn Snr.
Halloween-themed fire-eaters on stilts will be among the entertainment on offer, with paid-for fairground rides to run through the evening.
The show will be staged on the seafront near the town’s Asda supermarket.
