Suspect packages sparked an alert in a city centre park.

Officers were called to Mowbray Park in Sunderland city centre after the alarm was raised at 12.58pm, today.

Two suitcases had been found dumped near to a notice board.

It comes after suitcases sparked similar incidents in Durham and South Shields in recent months.

Police carried out investigations and found there was no concerns regarding the suitcases.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Officers attended and established there were no concerns in relation to the suitcases. They were removed by the council.

"The park was not evacuated at any point."
