Young girls with a passion for the nation’s favourite game are on the lookout for new players - after becoming undefeated champions.

Boldon Girls Football Club Under-12s took a leaf out of the famous Arsenal Invincibles team and went on an undefeated run last season in the Russell Foster League.

“The girls work really hard in their training sessions, so to win the league in this manner is well deserved.”

Paul Smith

The girls, who have played together for the past two years, will now take their place in the under-14s category when the new season starts next month.

Chairman and coach Paul Smith said: “The girls have been together for the past two years but this season there has been some really big improvements.

“They won the league last year. This season they have also won all their games - which is some achievement.

“The girls work really hard in their training sessions, so to win the league in the manner they did was well deserved.

“We’re all really pleased for them as a club.”

The club which has been running for more than two decades currently has more than 100 members on its books.

Mr Smith added: “Girls’ football is really taking off and every year there are more and more teams.

“We are always looking for new players and we have teams for those under-eight right the way through to under-18s, and are always adding new teams.

As well as players, the club - which is a Charter Standard club within the FA and is the sister club to Sunderland Ladies - is also on the lookout for volunteer coaches.
