A pie and peas supper with entertainment by local folk group Seganainm, organised by The West Boldon Residents’ Association, took place recently in the Wheatsheaf in West Boldon. The evening was hailed a great success and the association’s next social activity will be a Christmas tea in December for members. The next public event the West Boldon Christmas Festival, Carols Around the Tree, will take place on Wednesday, December 14, at 6.30pm around the Christmas tree next to the village sign on Addison Road in West Boldon. The singing will be supported by The People’s Mission Silver Band, from South Shields, and the choir of West Boldon Primary School will be taking part. Santa will make a visit and hot soup will be kindly provided by The Red Lion.

On Tuesday, October 25, Margaret Davison will give a talk and presentation to the Boldon’s History Society in the function room of The Grey Horse in East Boldon at 7pm. The talk is entitled Two Great Uncles of Irish Decent in WW1, to which all are welcome. The society meets every last Tuesday of the month in The Grey Horse and the last meeting for this year will take place on Tuesday, November 29, at 7pm, when Geoff Philips will give a talk on the History of Radio.

Hedworth Lane Primary School in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery, will be holding its parents’ evening on November 14 and 15 from 3.45pm to 6.45pm. The school promotes cycling or riding a scooter to school as part of its Safer Routes to School Travel Plan and is actively encouraging this by continuing its commitment to bicycle safety with Years 4 and 5 pupils, who have taken part in cycle training this summer.

You and your children can enjoy a magical afternoon with Father Christmas at the Quality Hotel in Boldon on December 4, 11 and 18 with a three-course lunch at 1pm and a magic show at 3pm, when a very special guests will also visit from the North Pole with gifts for all good children. Breakfast with the Naughty Elves, Ditsy Fairy and Santa will also take place on Sundays, December 4, 11 and 18 at 9am for an interactive morning of festive fun.

Boldon Golf Club in Dipe Lane, East Boldon, will hold a Comedy Night on Friday, November 18. Tickets cost £10, available from the golf club.

Year 7 Boldon School pupils will be going to Powburn Outdoor Centre next month and Year 7 and 8 students in March next year, Year 7, 8 and 9 in May and then Year 7 students only in November 2017. The Hair and Beauty Salon at the school continues to provide a range of professional treatments and services at very competitive rates. The salon is open to the public and also offers packages for individuals, families and corporate groups. It is a training salon but all treatments and services are under the watchful eye of the team of staff who operate within the industry alongside their teaching commitment.
