The Carols Around the Christmas Tree Community Christmas Festival event will take place tomorrow at 6.30pm, and not as previously advertised in this column last week. The event will take place around the Christmas Tree next to the village sign on Addison Road, West Boldon, to which everyone is invited. The event is sponsored by South Tyneside Council. West Boldon Residents’ Association organise this event, and members and sponsors of the association held a very successful members and sponsors Christmas Tree last week in The Wheatsheaf in West Boldon. A presentation was made at the Christmas tea by chairman Commie Baker to Chris Head, Retiring Village Sub-Postmaster, for his dedicated service to the community over the past nine years and for his unstinting support to the association. All members passed on their very best wishes for his future.

Iyengar Yoga Classes for beginners and Improvers will take place from January 11 at Boldon Community Centre in New Road, Boldon Colliery. Classes are Mondays and Fridays from 9.30am 11.15am and Tuesdays from 7pm -8.45pm. There is spare equipment available at the centre so you do not have to bring your own. A Christmas concert by the Dauntless Theatre is planned for Saturday at 7.30pm in St Nicholas Church in Hedworth Lane, Boldon Colliery. The broth and stottie evening at the church previously planned for December 14 has been postponed until after New Year.

A joint venture Burns Supper night, organised by St Nicholas West Boldon and the United Reform Church in East Boldon, is planned for Saturday, January 23. The event will be held in The URC Church hall on Front Street, East Boldon.

The local folk band, Seganainm will host the Folk Club at The Grey Horse in East Boldon, at 7.30pm on January 7. Admission id free. On Thursday, January 14 the Band will be hosting at The Cricket Club Folk Club in East Boldon. This is also a free event and everyone is welcome. The band will be at the Alberta Social Club in Jarrow, near the Metro Station, for Friends of the Irish Night on Thursday. January 28.

A Christmas carol service will be held in East Boldon Methodist Church on Sunday at 3pm. The congregation will be supported by many of the organisations who use the church hall for various activities throughout the year. A carol service followed by mince pie and mulled wine will also take place in The Sacred Heart Church on New Road, Boldon Colliery, on Sunday at 6pm. A warm invitation is extended to anyone wishing to join either services.

West Boldon Post Office and Village Store will fully re-open for business on Monday, December 21. The shop, which has been closed for three weeks for a complete refurbishment, will re-open with the reinstatement of Post Office services which will now be available seven days a week.
