A MAN was found dead by the side of the Wear.
The 28-year-old’s body was discovered on Tuesday morning.
It is believed a passer-by saw the body, near Webster’s Bank, in Deptford.
Police and the ambulance service were called, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A file has been passed to the Sunderland coroner’s office.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At 7.16am on Tuesday, police received a report of concern for a man at Webster’s Bank.
“Police and paramedics attended and a 28-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A report has been prepared for the Coroner.”
Sunderland Coroner’s Office confirmed details of the man’s death had been received.
It is expected an inquest will be held at a later date.
