Body found in search for missing Durham University academic

RESCUE teams searching for missing Durham University academic Daniel Bennett have found a body.

Dr Bennett, 43, a software developer at the Centre of Evaluation and Monitoring, was last seen on Saturday, March 21, just before midday.

He was has not contacted friends or family since he was last seen at the Green Welly Stop in Tyndrum, Stirlingshire. He was thought to have gone walking in the hills nearby.

A police statement today said: “A large-scale search operation involving Police Scotland, Killin mountain rescue team, Lomond mountain rescue team, Tayside mountain rescue team, Arrochar mountain rescue team, Search and Rescue Dogs Association and RAF mountain rescue team has been ongoing since the 43-year-old was reported missing on the Tyndrum Hills on Saturday March 21.

“The body was recovered in the area of Ben Oss late this afternoon. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the man’s identity and Daniel’s family have been informed of this development.”
