Boat towed to safety after breaking down at sea off the Sunderland coast.

A broken down boat drifting on the North Sea sparked an emergency call to the coastguard.

Sunderland Lifeguards from the RNLI sprung into action after the alarm was raised at about 7.20pm, tonight.

A vessel with six people on board had broken down and was drifting in the waters one mile north east from the Sunderland piers near Hendon.

The boat was towed back to safety.
