VEHICLES worth hundreds of pounds have been destroyed after they were targeted in a suspected arson attack.
Firefighters from Sunderland Central Fire Station were called to Villiers Street in Hendon at 3.50am today after the blaze involving two cars and a van was reported.
A light blue VW Passat and a silver Rover MG ZS were destroyed by the fire, with a Ford Transit flatbed partly damaged.
It is believed the garage next to the land where they were parked had put the vehicles up for sale.
The fire service believe the blaze was started on purpose, with investigations being carried out into how it began.
Northumbria Police its officers were called to the scene at 4.40am and inquires are ongoing, with the cause of the fire not yet known.
