SAMSON and Delilah think the latest show on offer at the Sunderland Empire is the cat’s whiskers.
The SAFC mascots got up close and personal with the feline stars of Cats who are performing at the High Street West theatre until June 8.
One of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, Cats is based on T.S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking adaptation tells the story of one special night of the year when all Jellicle cats meet at the Jellicle Ball.
Here, Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, makes the Jellicle choice and announces which of them will go up to the heaviside layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.
Over the years, Cats has featured some of the country’s most famous stage performers, including Elaine Paige as Grizabella, Wayne Sleep as Mungojerrie, Bonnie Langford as Rumpleteazer, Paul Nicholas as Rum Tum Tugger, Brian Blessed as Old Deuteronomy, Sarah Brightman as Jemima and Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina and Grizabella.
Tickets for the show cost from £10 to £37.50.
