BLACK Cats legend Jimmy Montgomery is kicking off a day of family fun.
The goalkeeper will be helping the celebrations get under way at Silksworth Community Festival next week.
The festival is free and will be full of marquees and tents with various things for the family to enjoy.
Organiser Margie Smith said: “We were keen for people to be involved in the community and this is the perfect way to get everyone involved and it coincides with the Olympics which is even better.”
Many have been involved in the putting together of the fun-filled day including Sunderland 2012, Sunderland City Council, Gentoo and churches.
Margie added: “We have had great responses. Everyone has been so positive. We are expecting between 500 to 1,000 people to turn up on the day.”
There will be music from The Salvation Army, face painting, a football cage, bungee run and a hula hoop competition.
The festival takes place on August 4 at Silksworth Juniors School playing field, from 11am to 5pm.
