A CHOIR will mark its 40th birthday with a celebration of its talent.
The Durham Singers will perform a programme of English music dating from the renaissance to the present day at Elvet Methodist Church, Durham, on Saturday, June 23, at 7.30pm.
The event, which will feature music by Byrd, Parry and Howells, will also include a choice to reflect the Queen’s Jubilee year.
The choir will sing two of Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Behold O God Our Defender, written by Herbert Howells for Elizabeth II’s coronation.
The singers, founded by the late Dick Addison, started out with 16 members, some of whom still perform, and during its time has only had three musical directors.
Tickets for the anniversary event cost £12, or £10 concessions, and are available from the Gala box office on 332 4041.
