PLANS to restore a city park to its former glory and add more features, are being made bigger and better.
The campaign to revamp Wharton Park, in Durham City, is to be expanded after winning the backing of funders who want to see more made of the land as part of proposals.
The Friends of Wharton Park had hoped to secure £1.8million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
However, the group has since increased its bid to £2.23million, after working with lottery officials.
The HLF has granted the project a £44,000 development fund, with a case for a second round of funding to be submitted in August.
A decision is expected in December and work on the park, off Framwellgate Peth and North Road, could begin in February next year.
