A COUPLE have celebrated the launch of their new pub venture with the help of a prime-time TV star.
Crissy Rock, who runs a bar in the hit ITV1 series Benidorm and starred in last year’s I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, was on hand to pass on a few tips when the Pemberton Arms, in Cold Hesledon, reopened its doors.
Husband and wife team Kevin, 35, and Nova Ord, 38, from Peterlee, have refurbished the pub, which is between Dalton-le-Dale and Murton, and added a restaurant and guest house.
Nova said: “Crissy gave us a fantastic start. She was brilliant on stage and received a great welcome from her many fans.
“The only problems we had was where to fit everybody in to see her and to keep the customers served from behind the bar.
“It was a superb opening and kind of overwhelming, but all the family were on hand to help and make sure it all went smoothly.
“My dad Nigel is back home in Peterlee on holiday from Egypt and he jumped in to help with the demand. It really was the start we had so much wanted.”
Crissy, who pulled the first pint to mark the pub’s opening, said: “Kevin and Nova have a lovely venue here and I am sure all their hard work and investment will pay dividends for them.
“It was nice to be working just around the corner from my home in Peterlee, and to receive such a big welcome.
“I’m sure they will receive the backing of the public.
“These are difficult financial times for people around here at the minute but I really do admire young people who are prepared to start a new venture in such circumstances.
“They will be seeing me and my partner as customers for sure and my friends when they visit us.”
The couple, who have two sons, have spent the last 12 years running their own paving and groundwork company based at their home.
The Pemberton Arms, on the B1432 Stockton Road, also has a pool and gaming area, play park and five bedrooms.
