A BEAUTY queen and pageant king are teaming up with the Black Cats for a great cause.
Miss Sunderland, aka Philippa Attle, and Nathaniel Smith, who is the region’s first ever Mr North East, are expected to teach the SAFC players a thing or two about mastering the catwalk at this year’s Fashion Strikes show.
The annual fundraising event, which takes place on Tuesday at the Stadium of Light, see sportsmen join models to showcase designer threads in aid of the SAFC Foundation.
Philippa, 18, from Chester-le-Street, who won the Miss Sunderland title earlier this year, said: “I can’t wait to model the clothes, I would never normally get the chance to wear things like this.
“I’m a big SAFC fan - Haway the lads - so I’m quite excited about modelling alongside the footballers.”
Philippa and Nathaniel tried on designer clothes at Fenwick, Newcastle, ahead of the show which will feature clothes from the store.
Nathaniel, 26, who lives in Marsden, South Tyneside, said: “It’s cool coming along for the fitting today. I’ve tried on some Paul Smith jeans and some Gant stuff. I’m not really into football - basketball and American football are more my thing.
“But I see the footballers on nights out so it will be interesting to see them on the catwalk.”
He added: “I did this show a couple of years ago through a modelling agency and it was a lot of fun. It’s a really glamorous night out and it’s great to see footballers, who get paid so much, doing a good deed for charity.”
Last year’s Fashion Strikes – which is now in its fourth year – raised £25,000 for SAFC Foundation which works with more than 40,000 children and young people across the North East in education, community, health and sport programmes every year.
Fenwick is providing outfits and styling the models for the catwalk show, with hairstyling by creative directors from Regis Hair & Beauty and Trimmers in Fenwick.
Make-up will be by national Georgio Armani face designer Cesar and make-up artist Kate, from the exclusive Armani beauty boutique in Fenwick.
• A very limited number of tables are on sale for the event now with packages starting from £1,000 for a table of 10.
