WANNABE beauty queens strutted their stuff in a bid to become pageant princesses.

Miss 24 Carat, a qualifier for Miss England, held a casting session at the salon in Grangetown in the hopes of finding finalists.

The competition is looking for girls from Sunderland and beyond to compete in the Miss 24 Carat final which will take place in April next year.

Salon owner and Miss 24 Carat organiser Jodie Breeds said: “The casting session went really well. We had girls from across the North East coming along and I’m really impressed with the calibre of contestants so far.

“Some have pageant experience but some haven’t done anything like this before. We’re hoping to find a girl capable of becoming Miss England.”

Entries are invited for the urban fashion-themed final which will take place at Bannatyne Hotel in Darlington on April 13.

To enter Miss 24 Carat you have to meet the Miss England rules which are: aged 17 to 24, unmarried and have no children. To fill in your entry form visit www.missengland.info.
