Pam Alexander gave a demonstration entitled Tis The Season to Sunderland Floral Art Club at The Royalty Theatre. The ladies enjoyed a wonderful evening watching the magic Pam weave with her floral demonstration.

At their recent meeting, Sunderland Lions Club members welcome several visitors. Amy Gormanley-Hudson, from Centrepoint, gave a talk on youth homelessness, and Lion President Peter Fielding presented her with a cheque for £250. Sunderland High Leo Club President Amy Davison also presented her with another cheque for £100. Also present that evening were Lion Vice-district Governor Malcolm Hogg and two visitors from Grand Bend Lions Club in Ontario, Canada, Brian and Loretta Whitfield, who were staying in the area with their daughter. Sunderland Lions are very busy at the moment organising the Boxing Day Dip and Santa’s Sleigh. They are also organising several casino nights in the not too distant future. Closing date for registration for the dip is December 12 and nearly 700 people have already registered to take part.

Barnes, Pallion and Millfield Residents’ Association will not have a meeting in December or January. The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 7, at 7pm in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish Centre, Wilson Street. Best wishes for Christmas and a Happy New Year is wished to all the members.

Santa’s coffee morning will be held at Burn Park Methodist Church on Saturday from 10am to noon. There will be various stalls as well as bacon and sausage sandwiches, coffee and mince pies. See Santa in his grotto and absorb the atmosphere at the event, which is sure to get you in a Christmas mood.

A coffee morning will be held in the JB Hall of St Luke’s Church, Pallion, on Saturday from 10am. There will be a bric-a-brac stall, baking stall and raffle, as well as tea and coffee. Everyone is welcome.

The speaker at the next joint meeting of Bishopwearmouth and Sunderland Men’s Probus Clubs in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, December 13, at 10.30am will be Geraldene Straker, from the Beamish Open Air Museum. She will give a progress report on the museum’s latest project, the 1950s. Visitors for whom there is no admission charge will be welcome.

Shiney Row Male Voice Choir presents A Christmas Tree Festival Concert at Ewesley Road Methodist Church on Saturday, December 10, from 3pm to 5pm.

St Gabriel’s Church coffee morning will be held on Saturday from 10.30am to noon, and is in aid of church funds. Coffee and mince pie will be £1. There will also be a cake stall and raffle. All are welcome.

A Christmas fun day takes place at St Mark’s Community Association on Saturday, December 10, at noon. Free courses are also available at the centre for anyone aged 50 or over and unemployed. They will be in basic English, maths, computers, CV and work skills. These are designed to help people back into work. Email martinrobson@btinternet.com for more information.

Sunderland Minster Vintage and Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 10am to 3pm. Visit this enchanting event for a host of stalls selling hand crafted items, jewellery, scarves, handbags, knitted items, hand crafted greetings cards and gift bags, and much more. Refreshments are also available. Entry is 50p for adults and children are free.

Magic Christmas will take place at Deptford and Millfield Community Association on Monday, December 19, at 6.30pm. Tickets are £4.

Seaham Seafarers’ Centre Carol Service (Dawdon entrance to the Dock Company SR7 7NZ) takes place on Wednesday, December 14, at 7pm. This is a carol service with a difference, followed by fellowship and food. Everyone is welcome.

A Christmas market will be held at City Life Church, Hylton Road, on Friday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Refreshments will be available and there will be a home baking stall, Christmas stall, sweets. This event is raising funds for St Benedicts Hospice.

Celebration of Christmas in aid of City Hearts charity will be held at The Salvation Army, Rutland Street, Millfield, on Saturday at 6.30pm.

Call into the Cribs and Bibles Exhibition at Burn Park Methodist Church, which will be on display until Christmas.

Ewesley Road WI will meet in The Enid Dagg Room of the Church on Wednesday, December 7, at 2.15pm. This will be a members’ afternoon. Stall will be biscuits and chocolates. There will also be the competition.

Wear a Christmas jumper in aid of City Hearts charity at The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre, Rutland Street, on Sunday at 11am. This will be followed at 6pm by Christingle and Toy Appeal Service. Be an angel and bring a new toy for the appeal. It will be led by Karen and Adam Raine.

Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet on Wednesday, December 7, at 7.30pm when June Waterstreet will be the guest speaker. June will talk about Fundraising for Sunderland Royal.
