A MAYOR joined fund-raisers for a cuppa in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.

The coffee and cake morning was held at the Hetton and Eppleton Community Hall and among the supporters was Mayor of Hetton, Ethel Richardson, who was joined by other councillors.

Alex McIntosh, 59, from Easington Lane, is a member of the New Dawn group, which was behind the fund-raiser.

The group offers support for people who may be isolated from their community due to issues such as illness or old age.

Alex said: “Great North Air Ambulance is the Mayor of Hetton’s chosen charity of the year.

“I hold them in high esteem. Obviously they are quite a busy organisation and they run it all on a charity basis.

“It’s an extremely good charity to support.”

There were raffles with a host of prizes as well as plenty of homemade cakes to tempt the crowd.

Alex said the members of the New Dawn group were up to their elbows in flour in the run-up to the event to make sure there were enough goodies on offer.

Alex said: “We were baking non-stop for about three days but it was all worth it.”
