BAD weather has forced Sunderland’s adopted warship to cut its visit to Wearside short.

HMS Ocean arrived in Wearside on Friday and had been due to stay until Tuesday, with Wearsiders welcomed aboard for visits.

But the Royal Navy has now announced it will depart this afternoon.

A spokesman for Sunderland City Council said: “Due to weather and sea conditions forecast for tomorrow, regretfully HMS Ocean is expected to leave at 6-6.30pm today, a day earlier than expected.

“The last guided tour onboard will begin at 1pm today and everyone is encouraged to wave goodbye from along the seafront at the mouth of the river.”
