PROUD Keith Wilson just loves his newborn son – and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

And he had the unusual chance to combine the two, when he had five-month-old Luke James Wilson blessed in a ceremony on an RNLI boat.

Keith, 32, of South Hetton, said: “I work for the RNLI and I thought it would be nice for Luke to be part of it.”

It was an important weekend for the Wilson household.

Saturday’s ceremony saw Luke – who was born on September 26 last year at the University Hospital of North Durham weighing 9lbs – blessed by a vicar at the headquarters of the Hartlepool branch of the RNLI.

A day later, he was christened at St Mary’s Church in Easington Village.

Keith is also dad to 13-year-old Eleanor Wilson and is married to Jill Wilson, 26, a medical receptionist.

Keith added: “We arranged for the vicar to come down, say a few words and bless Luke on the boat.”

Eight members of the family attended the service and Keith admitted: “It is a very proud day for me. Hopefully Luke will want to follow in his dad’s footsteps. I would encourage him, but it will be his choice.”
