HORRIBLE Histories man Terry Deary helped make the Herrington Village Show a blooming success.
The Scout hut in Crow Lane played host to a dazzling array of local produce and traditional crafts.
“The show is staged by a group including Herrington Flower Club, Herrington Women’s Institute and Townswomen’s Guild, the local churches and the Scouts,” said Les Scott, who helps organise the event on behalf of the Board Inn Leek club.
“Each group supports a different section of the event – the leek club looks after the vegetable and produce section, the Women’s Institute and Townswomen’s Guild look after the cookery classes and the embroidery section.”
Les thinks TV shows such as The Great British Bake-Off have helped spur a renaissance in traditional skills such as baking, flower arranging and embroidery. “This year’s flower displays were on the theme of Disney films, and they exceeded everybody’s expectations,” he said.
“Terry Deary agreed to come and help us with the junior section and we are indebted to our sponsors.
“We have been supported by Oliver’s Dental Studio for a number of years and Strawberry Rose cafe were very generous with their prizes.”
