BIG-HEARTED schoolboy Dylan Ward has raised a whopping £8,400 through the sale of his paintings.

The talented 11-year-old, from Ayton, Washington, is celebrating after raising the money for Macmillan Cancer Support after an exhibition of his penguin paintings.

The show, which closed at the Biscuit Factory Gallery, Newcastle, on Sunday, proved a huge success with the original paintings selling within a day.

Further amounts were raised for charity through the sale of copies of his prints.

The Blackfell Primary School pupil chose to help the charity after its nurses cared for his grandfather John Pearson who died from cancer in 2009, aged 53.

Dylan has since featured in national media for his work which has captured people’s imaginations.

A spokesman from the gallery said: “A big, big well done Dylan, a staggering amount of money raised and thank you to everyone who has made the exhibition such a success.”
