HAVE you got what it takes to shine in Sunderland’s answer to Britain’s Got Talent?

The Gen Factor talent contest is back and it’s looking for skilled performers, in year groups seven to 11, to be part of this year’s spectacular.

Now in its seventh year, the show, run by Gentoo, aims to find the city’s next big star.

Open auditions are taking place next week for singers, bands, dance acts, choirs, musicians and comedians.

A spokeswoman for the contest said: “Since it launched in 2009, more than 800 young people from across the city have taken part. The aim is to give young, local performers in Sunderland the chance to grow and build confidence.”

Last year’s winner was Sandhill View School pupil Aaron Hough who wowed judges, including Futureheads frontman Barry Hyde, with his complex dance routines.

This year’s final will take place at Rainton Meadows Arena on October 28.

•Genfactor open auditions, for anyone in full-time education in year groups seven to 11, take place on Tuesday February, 17 from 10am to 4pm at Bede Tower, Burdon Road. All acts must be accompanied by an adult
