A CAMPAIGN to clear the streets of drinks cans has passed on its first cash donation to good causes.
The East Durham Trust launched its Million Can Challenge at the start of the summer and has teamed up with a waste recycling firm to use the cans to generate funds.
Now it has gifted £100 to Haswell Mencap in recognition of its role in supporting the challenge, with more cheques to be handed out to charities in coming weeks.
The trust’s chief executive Malcolm Fallow said: “Although this is primarily an environmental project it has always been our intention to generate small amounts of money for local groups.’’
