POLICE are hoping to trace witnesses after a man had part of his ear bitten off in a pizza shop.

As revealed in the Echo, Marco Oswald and his 19-year-old girlfriend Gemma Vasey were in Urban Oven Pizza, in Durham City’s Claypath, when the assault happened.

Marco, 22, said: “This guy came up and started giving us threats and shoulder barging and saying to go outside and fight.

“Before I even responded, he got me on the floor and bit my ear. The lads from behind the counter came out and dragged me out from under him.”

Marco flagged down a taxi and went to hospital for treatment to his badly-damaged ear.

Now, police have released CCTV images of other potential witnesses to the incident at 1.10am on Monday, May 7.

DC Catherine Knox, from Durham CID, said: “We believe a number of people witnessed the attack and are putting out this new CCTV footage of those we would like to speak to in the hope that they will come forward.”
