The female Jack Russell terrier type dog, thought to be around 15-years-old had very long, overgrown claws and teeth so bad she required emergency dental treatment.

She was found at around 5pm on Thursday, April 21, in a park near Balmoral Crescent.

The canine was wearing a pink collar, with ‘Jewel’ inscribed on a tag, along with a mobile phone number, which is no-longer in use by her owner.

RSPCA inspector Kaye Smith said: “The poor little girl may be old but there is no excuse for her condition.

“She was in a terrible state and vets have confirmed she was suffering.

“All but two of her teeth have had to be removed, they were in such a mess."

“The man who answered when I called told me that he sometimes receives calls for a Miss Taylor so this might mean something to someone,” Inspector Smith added.

“We want to hear from anyone who recognises Jewel, and knows who her owner is, to get in touch.

"Anyone with any information should call the RSPCA inspector appeal line 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for me.”

Jewel is now in the care of an RSPCA inspector, who is fostering her while the investigation continues.
