THE Angel of the North is backing the Black Cats for tomorrow’s Tyne/Wear derby.

At least, the Sunderland one is.

The pint-size version resides in the back garden of Stadium of Light season ticket holder Paul Inskipp’s home in Friarsfield Close, Chapel Garth.

“The guy who owned the house before us had his own joinery business and he made it,” explained Paul, 51, a design engineer at Fin in Seaham.

“When we moved in he asked whether we wanted him to remove it, but we rather like it. We’ve also got a little Penshaw Monument.”

Magpies fans draped the real Angel with a massive Newcastle shirt in 1998.

Now Paul has returned the favour.

“Personally, I think the Angel has always been a Mackem,” he said.
