AMERICAN football team The DC Presidents have decided to support the RSPCA as their charity for the new season.

Players from the County Durham-based team, and members of the newly established Liberty Bells Cheerleading Squad, visited RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre in Chester Moor, Chester-le-Street to meet the staff and some of the animals in their care. After, RSPCA fund-raising manager for the North of England Amy Smith went along to The DC Presidents’ first game of the new season, at Esh Stadium, a 31-20 win against reigning division champions Edinburgh Wolves, she said: “We’re so thrilled The DC Presidents have chosen to support the RSPCA this season.

“They couldn’t have made us more welcome.”

She added: “They’ve put banners up around the stadium and did a collection for us at the end of the game.”

She added: “It was a really brilliant day, and I’d encourage anyone who likes sport but perhaps hasn’t ever been to an American football game to go along.”
