Air ambulance scrambled after man seriously injured in car crash

A MAN is in hospital after suffering serious injuries in a car crash.

The 35-year-old from Murton had to be cut free from his car after the vehicle smashed into a tree on the A167 between Durham and Chester-le-Street.

The Great North Air Ambulance was called out to assist paramedics at about 10am this morning.

Firefighters were also dispatched to free the man from his vehicle.

He was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary hospital suffering severe injuries to his leg and pelvis.
