Ahead of embarking on a gruelling tour of Afghanistan, soldier Shane Graham took the time to help families scarred by the death of a baby.
The 21-year-old kingsman in 1st battalion Duke of Lancaster's Regiment will fly out to the war-torn country on March 18.
But before he went he completed a gruelling nine-mile run at Herrington Country Park to raise fund for the 4Louis charity.
Walk in the park for families in need.
Set up by Kirsty McGurell and her family, it aims to have keepsake boxes put in place at hospitals throughout the region to help families through the trauma of having a still-born baby.
Kirsty, 21, of Houghton, was inspired to launch the charity after losing son Louis 12 days before he was due to be born.
The boxes, a batch of which have already been delivered to Sunderland Royal Hospital, include a moulding kit for baby's hands and feet, a candle, a guardian angel figure and teddies.
