Accidents bring rush hour chaos to A1
A series of accidents has caused rush-hour chaos for drivers on the southbound A1.
The inside lane and hard shoulder of the southbound slip-road are closed at Junction 63 for Chester-le-Street after an accident and the road is not expected to reopen fully for another hour.
Police also dealt with two minor collisions and a broken down HGV in the Birtley area, with one lane closed.
The road is now fully reopen but raffic is still queuing.
