A monthly fruit and veg stall offering top- quality produce at low prices is to be held every week starting next year.
Organisers of the stall in Healthworks, Paradise Lane, Easington Colliery, are delighted with the success of the co-operative venture.

The Food Chain Company North East provides the produce, which is put into bags of mixed fruit, vegetables or salads.

Customers are able to buy the bags for much less than they would pay in a supermarket.

The stall is the idea of local woman Alyson Johnson, who has been running it for the last few months.

"It has been a huge success," she said. "I am delighted we are now going to be able to offer a weekly service.

"The food is fresh, locally-sourced and exceptional value.

"The stall has helped me maintain a healthy diet, and I'm sure it's helped a lot of other people as well.

"It's also great to be able to catch up with friends and have a drink in the Juiceworks smoothie bar."

The stall is supported by NHS County Durham and Darlington Community Health Services as part of its efforts to make County Durham a healthier place to live.
