Stars of the pitch took to the Black Cat-walk in a night of football, fashion and fund-raising.
Sunderland's first team strutted their stuff in designer threads for the second Fashion Strikes event which raises funds for the SAFC Foundation charity.

Skipper Lorik Cana said it was a chance for the team to give something back to the city that supports the team so passionately.

"Our most important job is on the pitch, but our duty is not just to play football but to be an ambassador for the club," he explained.

Olympic boxing hero Tony Jeffries joined the footballers on the catwalk to model fashions from Jules B.

As part of the star-studded event, guests, who paid £110 each for a ticket, bid for exclusive auction items such as lunch with Anton Ferdinand and Darren Bent and goalkeeper gloves signed by Craig Gordon.

As well as a performance from X Factor finalists Miss Frank, midfielder Andy Reid showed off his musical skills when he sang Run by Snow Patrol and Norwegian Wood by the Beatles.

"The event is about having fun and raising valuable funds for the foundation," he said. "All the lads are very proud of the work the foundation do, they make a massive difference to kids in the city."

Black Cats defender Nyron Nosworthy said the night was a good chance to meet the fans.

He said: "You get to meet people on matchdays, but it's only for a quick hello. This gives you a chance to socialise with people and give something back in a different way.

"Most youngsters live and dream football, but there is so much more to life and the foundation helps to illustrate that."

Each year, SAFC Foundation helps more than 30,000 children across the area using the power of football to reach out to kids with educational schemes.

SAFC Foundation chief executive, Lesley Spuhler, said: "We get absolutely great backing which comes from the top, down to the players.

We have a player at an event every week whether it's a fund-raiser like this or meeting the kids.

"At last year's fashion show we raised £16,000, but we are hoping to top that this year."
