MP for Sunderland South Chris Mullin told the House of Commons today that it was time to recognise that neither Britain or the EU had "any serious influence" on the Israelis.
Mr Mullin was addressing Foreign Secretary David Miliband as he updated Parliament on the Middle East crisis.

"These are war crimes that we are witnessing in Gaza," he said.

Britain should start talking with EU allies about sanctions and "at the very least to stop selling them weapons and, perhaps, the withdrawal of our ambassador".

He said this was the only thing that would make any impression of the Israeli leadership.
