A MAN who has repeatedly ignored a court order preventing him from having contact with his family has been jailed.
John Corbett, aka Bates, is banned by law from contacting his sister, her partner and even his own mother.

But the 35-year-old, from Wearside, was at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday after admitting his third breach of the order.

The court heard
the order was made on January 3 as a result of his conviction for harassment, when he was jailed for three months.

He first breached the order by sending letters to his sister from prison claiming he was an "apostle of Jesus" who would meet his family again in the afterlife.

His second breach was when he made a phone call to his mother.
And the third was when he sent a letter to a friend asking her to contact his mother on his behalf.

Judge Beatrice Bolton jailed Corbett for 14 months, but he could be released in weeks due to the time he has spent on remand.

Judge Bolton said: "What you don't understand and what you will not accept is your family are frightened of you.

"Whatever you are thinking, they have told the court they do not want contact with you.

"Every time you can you contact them again and this causes a great deal of disruption and upset to them."

The court heard Corbett, who is of no fixed address, may have some form of mental health problem or Asperger's syndrome but has yet to be diagnosed.
