Unruly squaddies swapped fighting the Taliban for each other when a Christmas night out ended in a punch-up.
A group of soldiers from Catterick base were enjoying their party at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night when a brawl broke out.

The police were called to take control of the situation, which ended in two arrests.

A 27-year-old man was arrested for obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty.

A 28-year-old was arrested for common assault.

Both men accepted cautions on the night and were freed.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Police were called to the Stadium of Light at about 11.30pm on Tuesday following reports of disorder at a Christmas function."

The Army said they were unable to comment on the incident as it was a police matter.

Sunderland AFC refused to comment on the incident.
