Despite the credit crunch healthy crowds still flocked to the Royalty Theatre's traditional family pantomime.
Cinderella ran from December 4 to 13 and, despite the freezing weather and the general economic downturn, attendances across all 11 performances still touched 90 per cent at the 215-seat venue.
The cast featured many performers from the Royalty Theatre Youth Academy, including the title role which was taken by Charlie Martin.
"We are delighted that even in these difficult times when money is tight, so many people came to the Royalty panto. While we cannot compete with the big professional shows in terms of glitz and glamour, we like to think we provide an alternative which in some senses is closer to the audience," said chairman, Pauline Craig.
The company's next production is Harold Pinter's comedy The Hothouse, which runs from Jan 26 - 31.
The following Saturday (February 7) the Royalty plays host to a concert by the NASUWT Chester-le-Street Riverside Brass Band.
