Nissan is freezing production of two models at its Sunderland plant as the credit crunch takes its toll on spending.
The firm will stop making the Micra and Note models for two weeks from the end of the month, with a further three weeks short-time working.
Production of the Qashqai and Qashqai+2 is not affected and the plant will continue to operate a three-shift system on the Qashqai line.
A spokesman confirmed today staff on the affected line would still be in work as usual, undergoing training and carrying out maintenance.
