Man stole roadside fencing
A man stole fence panels from beside the road in a bid to cash in on their scrap value.
Durham Crown Court heard council workmen erected several panels around a bus stop on the A1086 Horden to Blackhall road in County Durham.
But three men were seen loading spare ones, which had been chained to a tree, on to a pick-up truck.
Driver Paul Buck, 26, of Buttermere Avenue, Easington Lane, was arrested and admitted theft on January 26, this year.
Bob Spragg, mitigating, said his client received £59 a week jobseekers' allowance, but hoped to train as a forklift truck driver to boost his income.
Judge Richard Lowden gave Bond a nine-month conditional discharged and told him: "Most of your dishonesty is some way in the past and my main aim is to stop you stealing things in future."
