Wear MP Sharon Hodgson, right, is backing a campaign to ensure all children have a hot and healthy meal at least once a day.

Voicing her support for free school meals, she asked Labour's manifesto writer and MP Ed Miliband to join her in congratulating organisations involved in the campaign for healthy meals.

The Washington MP said: "I wanted to point out that we have a broad coalition of support for this idea.

"The Child Poverty Action Group and Unison are both fully committed to a fairer deal for families and children and I'm glad to have them on board.

"I think we have hit a nerve with Ministers who realise we need to take big, bold decisions which will benefit the future health of the nation if we are to show people we are serious about building a fairer society. "
