Children at a Washington school have made their own Angel of the North – out of willow strips.
It may not be quite as big as the real structure, but it now takes pride of place in Oxclose Primary School's garden.

Headteacher Angela Harris said: "It was made out of willow by the Year 1 class, with help from support assistant Sharon Wilson.

"The children got a great deal of pleasure out of it. They started off making models and then making the framework and weaving the willow.

"It was practically a term's work, but they enjoyed it."
