TALKS are under way to bring an ice rink back to the region.
Durham once boasted the top ice hockey team in Britain with the Wasps, but has been left without an arena for 12 years.
Now developers have announced plans to set up a permanent rink on the former LG Philips site at Belmont on the outskirts of the city.
The proposed multimillion pound scheme would include a 3,000-seater rink with an Olympic-sized ice pad, cafes, restaurants, a fitness suite and shops.
It would create up to 200 jobs and could be open by autumn 2009.
