The team behind a new housing development in Houghton cooked up an extra special opening at the weekend.
TV chefs Si King and Dave Myers – better known as The Hairy Bikers – were on hand to officially unveil the showhome at the new development of seven luxury eco-friendly homes on Gillas Lane.

Si's brother Bill is one of three partners in Spring Oak Developments, the Gateshead-based firm behind the scheme.

Cutting the ribbon to declare the development open, Si King said: "It is a great privilege for me as Bill's brother to do this.

"There are lots of people to thank for their work, their effort and their time."

Bill and partners Andy Parish and Steve Rudkin are confident they can defy the credit crunch and make a go of their first development.

The green homes boast features such as solar panels, rainwater collection and state-of-the art windows.

"There will always be a demand for good-quality homes," said Bill.
Spring Oak developments are working with Hegertys estate agents to market the development.

The show home will be open at weekends from noon to 4pm and midweek by appointment. Call 404 6836, 512 4940 or visit
