Each with their own story to tell, 3,000 fund-raisers descended on Sunderland's seafront for this year's Great Women's Run.
As the sun shone down, spectators lined the coast to cheer on the runners determined to conquer the five-and-a-half mile route.

While for the elite runners the day acted as a warm-up exercise for the Beijing Olympics, for most it was a chance to raise money for causes close to their heart – and to have fun.
