Family and friends of Jordan Maddison have raised funds for a memorial to the youngster, who died in tragic circumstances.
A fund-raising event to pay for an engraved headstone opened with a minute's silence in memory of the popular 12-year-old, who collapsed and died in January after being chased near his Wearside home.
Mum Bev Chapplow, 27, said: "The night went really well. Jordan's older friends were there and some people who I had never even met who came to show their support, which was lovely.
"I put pictures up of Jordan around the room so everyone knew who we were there for."
The schoolboy, who had a heart condition, died after running away from older youths he believed were going to attack him.
The Houghton Kepier Sports College pupil had been out with a pal when they fled from two teenagers on to Railway Terrace North, East Herrington.
Jordan, who lived at nearby Fenton Terrace, made it to a neighbour's house before collapsing.
The youngster, who suffered from aortic stenosis, was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital but died shortly after.
Since his death friends and family have flocked to his place of rest at Houghton Cemetery, but Bev says the fund-raising night will mean she can get Jordan a fitting memorial with an engraved motorbike and verse.
Bev, who is also mum to Leah, four, said: "I am so pleased we can get the headstone we want for Jordan. I can't wait to see it in place."
Karen Seafield, from KLR Management, helped organise the event at New Herrington Club with clairvoyant Sean Roper.
She said: "Jordan's death was something that touched the region. Me and Sean were happy to be able to do something to help.
"I have a son around the same age as Jordan and it's frightening to think about what can happen."
She added: "There were a few messages that came through Sean and quite a few tears."
Other highlights included a raffle which helped raise a total of £1,318.
"I want to say thank you to all the local businesses who contributed and Fred and Lee from Derek Moss Funeral Directors in Shiney Row," said Bev.
"Also a big thanks to all my friends and family who are the ones who get me through."
Two youths, aged 17 and 15, were arrested in connection with Jordan's death and have been bailed until June 3.
