A fire has wrecked an amusement arcade in Sunderland.
The blaze took hold at Fulwell Amusements, in Sea Road, Fulwell, shortly before 5pm yesterday.

An electrical fault in a fruit machine sparked the fire, which set off the business's fire alarms.

Flames and smoke severely damaged the ground floor of the property, which contained a number of gambling machines and a cafe.

An empty upstairs flat was also damaged in the fire.

There was no-one in the building at the time.

Two adjoining properties in the terrace were slightly damaged by smoke and evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters from Sunderland, Fulwell and Washington fire stations were called to the scene and part of Sea Road was closed for a short time.

After firecrews donned breathing apparatus and doused the flames the property was made safe and boarded up by glaziers.
