Heads down and pens frantically scribbling, these teenagers are hoping to come top of the class.

St Anthony's RC School for Girls in Sunderland, was chosen to host a maths event. And more than 30 teams of young mathematicians aged 16 to 19 from throughout the North East went along to take part.

The day was part of the UK Maths Trust senior team challenge, run in conjunction with the Further Maths Network.

All the contestants took part in a number of fun and challenging maths problems.
