Firefighters from across Tyne and Wear turned out to a chemical leak at a factory.
Appliances from as far away as Newcastle were called for help after the report of a leak at Wessington Cryogenics in Philadelphia Complex, Houghton, at 4.15pm yesterday.
When they arrived they found a small leak coming from the valve of a container holding liquid nitrogen.
Four of the crew from Rainton Bridge wore breathing apparatus to approach the container and tighten the tap and stop the leak.
